President of Russia Vladimir Poutine welcomed the participants and spectators of the International Silk Road Rally and expressed confidence that the event will become a significant event in the international sports calendar. The telegram was published on the Kremlin’s website.
The first stage of the International Silk Road Rally took place in Tomsk on Friday.
— I welcome you to Tomsk, to the start of the International Rally “Silk Way – 2024”, which brought together a large number of participants – professionals and amateurs of motor and motorcycle sports from our country and abroad.
The drivers are waiting for thousands of kilometers of difficult roads, an intense struggle for victory with strong and experienced opponents, a serious test of strength – both technological and human. After all, the teams will have to travel across the territory of Russia and Mongolia – through the expanses of steppes and deserts, taiga off-road and high plateaus. In such extreme conditions, the sense of community, mutual assistance and skill are especially important.
I am convinced that the Silk Road 2024 will become a significant event in the world sports calendar and will contribute to the development of international humanitarian cooperation and strengthening of business and personal contacts. I wish success to the athletes and bright and memorable impressions to the spectators,” Putin’s telegram said.
The Silk Road Rally crosses Russia and Mongolia and ends on July 15 in Ulaanbaatar. The total length of the race will be 5,243 km, the length of the special stages will be 2,992 km.
