Silk Way Rally winner admits retirement from race after crash on stage 4

Current winner of the Silk Way Rally Marathon in the SUV category Andrei Rudskoy of the NG-Energo team told that after the crash on stage four he would think about whether it was worth continuing the performance.

The fourth stage of the Silk Way Rally will take place on Monday on the Gorno-Altaisk – Kosh-Agach route.

— From the start, we quickly caught up with the crew in front of us, gave several overtaking signals and received a response confirming that they were letting us pass. The distance was minimal, and the driver of crew No. 206 decided not to let us pass and pressed the gas. As a result, there were huge clouds of dust, we drove 7 kilometers, after which we came across a huge boulder that was thrown up by a truck. We could not see it in the dust; we tore off the steering wheel along with the steering rack. This cannot be “cured” on the road. They tied it up somehow, drove a few kilometers, but decided not to damage the car further. Now that the car is rolling on a “broom” to the bivouac, we are wondering whether it is worth continuing the race, because the penalties will be significant, ”Rudskoy told .

The Silk Road Rally crosses Russia and Mongolia and ends on July 15 in Ulaanbaatar. The total length of the race will be 5,243 km, the length of the special stages will be 2,992 km.
