NG-Energo Team Driver Andrei Rudskoy said that during the sixth stage of the Silk Way Rally marathon, he was close to a coup and was also afraid of receiving a speeding fine.
The sixth stage of the Silk Way Rally on the Khovd-Khovd route ended in Mongolia on Wednesday. The leader of the overall SUV standings is Alexey Ignatov from GAZ Raid Sport, who won the standings last year, in third place.
— It was a difficult day; we managed to drive through the sand with high pressure and an overheated engine. It’s good that we took all the points and tried not to go too fast. I don’t even remember the last time I drove for so long. Fearing a speeding ticket, I tried not to exceed 167 km/h. Once we almost turned over when jumping over a dune. “Everything went well, there was no damage, we left,” the correspondent reports, according to Rudsky.
Ignatov noted at the finish of the special stage that in the sand, tires have to be deflated and inflated manually, which affects the crew’s final time.
“We don’t have an automatic tire pressure adjustment system, so in the sand we have to stop and manually release the pressure, then inflate them after we get on the road. It takes us 5-6 minutes, but it’s better than digging sand under the car for 15 minutes to get it out.
We understand better than other participants our pace, what we need to strive for, etc. Today was a very good stage, we are satisfied with the way it went,” Ignatov said.
The Silk Road Rally crosses Russia and Mongolia and ends on July 15 in Ulaanbaatar. The total length of the race is 5,243 km, the length of the special stages is 2,992 km.
