KAMAZ-master team driver Dmitry Sotnikov After completing the tenth stage of the Silk Way marathon rally, he said that for the first time in his career he had covered 100 kilometres of dunes.
The tenth stage of the Silk Road rally on the Bayanhongor – Mandalgobi route ended in Mongolia on Sunday. Its winner was Eduard Nikolaev, followed by Belarusian Sergei Vyazovich, as well as representatives of the KAMAZ master Bogdan Karimov and Sotnikov, who came fourth. Sotnikov leads the overall standings, seven and a half minutes ahead of his teammate Nikolaev.
— The special stage was quite fast. We started first, all 300 kilometers at almost maximum speed. There were a lot of bumps, in one place we did not immediately see the road and turned back a little. The last 50 kilometers were fast and bumpy, we rode with Bogdan Karimov. The special stage turned out to be of average difficulty with a varying number of large and small stones. The main thing was to save the cars, and we managed to do it. Tomorrow we will have to drive carefully and achieve results, “Sotnikov reports according to a correspondent.
Another KAMAZ driver, Bogdan Karimov, who came third on Sunday, noted that during the stage it was important not to make navigation mistakes.
— There was an interesting special, a lot of top speed. On the steppe trails, it was necessary to work more carefully on navigation. On long anchorages, when there were four roads in front of your eyes, it was easy to take the wrong direction. In the middle of the way, we saw Dmitry Sotnikov, followed him and finished calmly. The windshield wipers broke down again, it was not easy to drive in the rain, but Dima was a guide for us. The race is coming to an end, there is still strength, “Karimov said.
The Silk Road Rally crosses Russia and Mongolia and ends on July 15 in Ulaanbaatar. The total length of the race is 5,243 km, the length of the special stages is 2,992 km.
