“The organizers have brought the Silk Way Rally as close as possible to the Dakar” – Nikolaev, KAMAZ master driver

The head and driver of the KAMAZ-master team Eduard Nikolaev, after the finish of the Silk Way rally marathon, said that the organizers had brought the race closer in complexity to the Dakar.

The eleventh stage of the Silk Road rally marathon, on the Mandalgobi – Ulaanbaatar route, ended on Monday in Mongolia. Nikolaev, a five-time winner of the Dakar Rally, took second place in the truck classification, behind his teammate Dmitry Sotnikov.

— This “Silk Road” inspired and surprised with its route. Very happy, the whole team is shocked. For beginners, especially for Bogdan Karimov, it is a very serious experience, since there is no Dakar for Russian athletes. The organizers brought the rally as close as possible to the Dakar, they made an incredible race, thank you very much. The route is simply fantastic! — correspondent reports Nikolaev’s words.

Andrey Karginov, master driver of KAMAZ, noted that the drivers could relax only in the last meters of the track.

“We are back on long and difficult marathon special stages with different terrains and surfaces. Everything that was possible was possible. Many thanks to the organizers for providing the course. We tested the cars well, we tested ourselves well. Even here, in the last kilometers, we went off course, although it looked like the finish of the race. The organizers showed that you can’t relax until the last meters of the course. A cool race, very cool,” Karginov said.

The Silk Road Rally took place across Russia and Mongolia from July 5 to 15. The race started in Tomsk and ended in Ulaanbaatar. The total length of the rally was 5,243 km, the length of special stages was 2,992 km.
