Former Ferrari boss Binotto to be Audi’s new Formula 1 team boss

The Lausanne native dedicated 28 years of his career to the Italian Scuderia

At the head of the team Formula 1 Audi changes have occurred. Instead of leaving his post Andreas Seidl became the team leader Mattia Binottowho previously held the position of director at Ferrari.

Binotto, 54, a native of Lausanne, Switzerland, has spent much of his career with Scuderia Ferrari. Over the course of 28 years, he held various positions at the Italian team, from engine engineer to the top job, where he stayed for four years before stepping down at the end of 2022.

The new functionary will take up his post on August 1. He will work as the chief operating officer of the Audi team, as well as the technical director, replacing Andreas Seidl (previously a director at McLaren and Sauber) and Oliver Hoffmann, who held a senior position at the Audi carmaker, who left their posts as a result of the restructuring.

Let us recall that in March of this year, Audi officially bought 100% of the shares of the Sauber team. The German auto concern will become a factory Formula 1 team from 2026.

There have been 13 stages in the current Formula 1 season. The current champion Max Verstappen is confidently leading the drivers’ standings, his team Red Bull leads the Constructors’ Cup. Its main competitor is McLaren. Sauber is at the bottom of the table with zero points.

The next Formula 1 Grand Prix will take place in Belgium, with its main race taking place on July 28.
