After a lone practice on Friday that took place in the rain, conditions improved for the afternoon. Although the rail was wet in some sections, it almost dried up so drivers went through the rail using smooth tires.

The qualifying session began in Q1 having to be red-flagged to clean up the track after a brake problem Alexander Albon suffered with his Williams.

After the restart, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc shared the first position with Ferraris. Monegasque finished as best with 1.18.796, followed by Max Verstappen at 499 and Carlos Sainz at 509.

Multiple champion Lewis Hamilton will soon be eliminated in Q1. In the final lap, he improved and finished in 15th place, right below those who passed in Q2.

Those eliminated in the first cut were: Yuki Tsunoda (16th), Pierre Gasly (17th), Nicholas Latifi (18th), Esteban Ocon (19th) and Alexander Albon (20th).

Sainz was stuck in Q2

When Q2 starts, the forecast is to start raining, so all the teams rush with their drivers onto the track to get a lap.

Max Verstappen led, followed by Carlos Sainz, who after completing the lap made a mistake in the second sector and ended up hitting the wall, causing a red flag.

After the red flag, it started raining in Imola and that is why the times have not improved. Verstappen, Sainz, Norris, Pérez, Leclerc, Alonso, Magnussen, Vettel, Ricciardo and Bottas were the top 10 to advance in Q3. Meanwhile, Russell (11th), Schumacher (12th), Hamilton (13th), Zhou (14th) and Stroll (15th) were eliminated.

The definition of classification

Q3 was played on a wet track, starting with an oversight by Kevin Magnussen in the second sector of the circuit. The shootout then continued and Verstappen took the lead.

With 3 minutes left, Bottas was hit and the red flag should have reappeared. Later, the shootout resumed and Lando Norris came out to form the final red flag, which set the end of the session.

Max Verstappen, along with Red Bull, went to pole position for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, second Charles Leclerc, third Lando Norris, fourth Kevin Magnussen, fifth Fernando Alonso and closed out the top 10: Daniel Ricciardo, Sergio Pérez, Valtteri Bottas, Sebastian Vettel and Carlos Sainz.

Tomorrow at 11:30 am It’s the Sprint and on Sunday at 10:00 am the F1 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix will start.
