“I hope to come to the Silk Way Rally in a new car” – driver Al-Attiyah

Five-time winner of the Dakar marathon rally and Olympic bronze medalist in the Hermitage race Nasser Al-Attiyah told he hoped to return to Russia for the Silk Way Rally in his new car.

Earlier, Al-Attiyah posted on his social networks a video with footage of participation in races in Russia – the Silk Road Rally and the Northern Forest Baja. The video was accompanied by the Russian anthem performed by SHAMAN. The Qatari driver has several participations in the Silk Road and a victory in the rally in 2019 with a record of ten special stages won.

— Do you miss the Silk Way Rally? When will we see you at the race again?

— Of course, I miss the Silk Road, the people and the atmosphere of the race. Russia is always in my heart, I have many friends here. Russia is one of the most beautiful countries in the world with unique landscapes. I have warm relations with Vladimir Chagin, the drivers and the KAMAZ-master team. I really hope to come back and enjoy the race and your country again.

— You have participated in the Olympic Games six times. Why did you decide not to fight for a trip to Paris?

— This year I decided not to go to the Olympic Games because in the next three years there will be a lot of work to refine my new Dacia car for performance in the Dakar. I also hope to be able to drive it in the Silk Road Rally,” Al-Attiyah told .

Al-Attiyah has won five Dakars in four different cars; most recently in 2023 with Toyota. In 2024, the driver competed in a Prodrive car, and from 2025 he will compete in a Dacia car.

The Qatari is one of the most successful rally raid drivers. In addition to his five Dakar victories, he is a two-time world champion and a five-time World Cup winner. Al-Attiyah has also enjoyed success in classic rallying, with a record 19 Middle East Championship wins, two World Rally Championship titles in WRC2 and one in WRC3.
