Big drift on Igora Drive: the fifth stage of the Russian Drift Series Grand Prix will take place in Saint Petersburg

The Igora Drive track will host the Russian Drift Series (RDS GP) Grand Prix for the first time after its modernization. The fifth stage of the country’s main drift championship will be held in Saint Petersburg on August 13-14 and promises to be one of the most interesting of the 2022 season.

The track near St. Petersburg is famous for its high-speed nature for drifting – large asphalt safety zones allow speed records to be set on the plateau, and the layout of the rated section is such that spectators can watch the races from start to finish from several of the stands.

Local heroes – pilots and crew

The Igora Drive stage will welcome the Carville Racing team and one of its drivers, Nikolai Gorkovenko. And Sergey Kabargin, representing the STAR РЁR STARS AIMOL team this year, has long become a symbol of St. Petersburg drift. This weekend, he will again drive the Flanker F hypercar of his own design.

Naturally, in addition to the Petersburgers, the Siberians will also compete for places on the podium. Neither Forward Auto leader Georgy Chivchyan, nor SITNEC FRESH AUTO DRIFT pilots Evgeny Losev and Damir Idiyatulin, nor Arkady Tsaregradtsev (FailCrew Darkseid) have yet managed to win at Igora Drive. Thus, each of them will be ready to win.

Two Flanker F on the same stage

The driver of the STAR РЁR STARS AIMOL team, Charles NG, who brilliantly distinguished himself at the wheel of the Flanker F in Krasnoyarsk, will once again have Sergey Kabargin’s hypercar. The opportunity to train more and spend more time with a new car will give the Hong Kong athlete a chance to adapt even better to the car and post a high result.

And since Sergey Kabargin, who was forced to miss the last stage, returns to the RDS GP, for the first time in the 2022 season, drift fans will be able to see two Flanker Fs at the same time on the same Igor Drive stage.

Zhigatsar, Donna and GRoza

Don’t cross out other regular RDS GP attendees. The Zhigatsar VAZ-2105 and its pilot Fyodor Vorobyov return to combat. Evgeny Ruzheynikov (“Moscow Sport”), speaking on a Nissan Silvia S15 named “Donna”, will also aim to recover. And, of course, Nikita Shikov (Carville Racing) will again delight fans with spectacular rides – his Toyota GR Supra “GRoza” invariably becomes an adornment of each stage of the Grand Prix of the Russian Drift Series.

Return to combat Ilya Fedorov, from whom you can expect pleasant surprises. As well as Dmitry Ermokhin (BY Motorsport) – the driver has already reached the podium at Igora Drive in the RDS GP and will certainly be determined to repeat this success. The performances of Leonid Schneider (Forward Auto) and the LUKOIL Racing Drift Team pilots promise to be interesting on the St. Petersburg track – at the last stage in Krasnoyarsk, Grigory Gusev, Magomed Omarov and Andrey Astapov did not shined, but are determined to recover.

RDS GP-2022 Referee Team

The composition of the judges at the stages of the RDS GP season 2022 is permanent. Qualifying attempts and paired races are evaluated by Russian drift series manager Dmitry Dobrovolsky and experienced pilots Anton Novikov (2021 RDS West runner-up, 2020 RDS West award winner) and Maxim Akhtyamov (director of the drift school MRE, vice RDS-Ural -champion, ULD champion and winner) circuit race “Classic 1000” in the general classification).
