Iannone will return to MotoGP at the Malaysian Grand Prix after serving a four-year doping ban

Iannone will drive for the VR46 Racing Team, owned by Valentino Rossi

Italian racer Andrea Iannone will return to MotoGP on Malaysian Grand Prix for the first time since serving a four-year doping ban.

Iannone, 35, tested positive for a banned anabolic steroid at the 2019 Malaysian Grand Prix, leading to an initial 18-month ban, which the Italian appealed.

The ban was then extended to four years by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, with the ban ending in December 2023.

Iannone still maintains his innocence, believing his positive result was due to him accidentally ingesting a banned substance through contaminated meat.

The Malaysian Grand Prix will take place from November 1 to 3. Andrea Iannone will drive for Valentino Rossi’s VR46 Racing Team, replacing Fabio Di Gianantonio, who has returned to Rome for shoulder surgery.
