Verstappen triumphantly won the Brazilian Grand Prix. Ocon and Gasly are in the top 3, Norris is sixth

The leader of the standings scored his first victory in 10 stages, starting from 17th position on the grid

Current champion Formula 1 and leader of the personal competition Max Verstappen (Red Bull) was the winner Brazilian Grand Prix.

The Dutchman’s achievement is all the more honorable because he started the race at the Interlagos circuit from 17th place after unsuccessful qualifying and a 5-place penalty due to an engine change. Weather conditions that previously disrupted qualifying also affected the main race: it was interrupted for a while due to rain. The champion adapted best to the circumstances: he gained seven positions at the start, gradually rose to third place, and after the resumption of the race he took the lead and never lost his advantage.

The other two places on the podium were sensationally taken by representatives of the Alpin team – Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly. Neither had finished higher than ninth earlier in the 2024 season.

George Russell (Mercedes) and Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) finished in the top five. McLaren driver Lando Norris, Verstappen’s main pursuer in the championship race, showed only sixth result, despite starting from pole position.

The top 10 was completed by Yuki Tsunoda (RB), Oscar Piastri (McLaren), Liam Lawson (RB) and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes). Let us note that Carlos Sainz from Ferrari, the winner of the previous stage in Mexico City, retired early from the race in Sao Paulo.

Verstappen seriously increased his lead over Norris in the individual competition and, three stages before the end of the season, actually buried the championship intrigue. The next Grand Prix will be held in Las Vegas at the end of November.
