“Silk Way” International Rally Project Manager Vladimir Chagin said the total race distance in 2025 will be around 5,000 kilometers, of which 2,500 will be high-speed special stages.
The presentation of the route of the 15th edition of the International Silk Road Rally took place on Friday. The race will take place across Russia and Mongolia. The departure ceremony will take place in Irkutsk on July 12, the arrival is planned in Gorno-Altaisk on July 22. The stages of the rally will pass through Baikalsk, Ulan-Ude, Ulaanbaatar, Bayanhongor, Altai, Khovd and Kosh-Agach.
— In 2024, our project celebrates its 15th anniversary. The history of the race began in 2009 and for around fifteen years, the marathon rally routes have connected people and countries, history and culture and, of course, sport and friendship. We are already preparing for the 15th competition, which will take place next year in the middle of summer.
The last edition of the transcontinental race, which connected Russia and Mongolia on the route from Tomsk to Ulaanbaatar, became one of the brightest adventures of the season and was remembered by all participants, fans and partners of the rally. Therefore, it is with special trepidation that we present the new route – it will become even more interesting and more beautiful, but at the same time more difficult and demanding.
I am confident that everyone who travels with us in July 2025 will have a great time and the fans will enjoy the unpredictable and exciting battle of the athletes. The project’s sports management team has just returned from the first expedition to identify the route which will become the basis of the future race.
Participants will once again be able to enjoy a maximum variety of surfaces – from rocky mountain trails and steppe roads to large sandy expanses, which will be even more numerous next year.
The marathon rally will take place from July 12 to 22, the route will once again connect Russia and Mongolia, pass through the Gobi Desert with its unique sands and take participants to the Altai Mountains – one of the most picturesque places of Eurasia. But at the same time, another pearl will shine on the Silk Way Rally 2025 map: Lake Baikal, the deepest and most unusual in the world.
In total, in ten days, the crews will have to cover around 5,000 kilometers, including 2,500 at high speed. The distance of the marathon rally may be slightly adjusted after the general revival, which will take place in the spring of 2025, when the snow melts and it will be possible to more accurately assess the condition of the route.
We have a lot of work ahead of us to prepare for the rally. All details of the route must be carefully coordinated with the executive authorities of Russia and Mongolia so that the race is not only beautiful, but also as safe as possible. For us, the safety of participants and spectators has always been our top priority, and our many years of experience allows us to organize competitions at the highest level,” Chagin was quoted as saying by a correspondent.
