Mick Schumacher will step down as Mercedes reserve driver at the end of the 2024 season

The driver decided to focus on performances at the World Endurance Championship with the Alpine team

Mick Schumacherson of legendary German racing driver Michael Schumacher, will step down as reserve driver Mercedes at the end of the 2024 season.

Schumacher joined the Brackley-based team ahead of the 2023 season after two seasons on the grid with Haas. Since then, Mick has continued to do simulator work for the Silver Arrows, as well as provide feedback during testing and racing.

As a reserve driver for Mercedes, Mick Schumacher also competed for Alpine in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) and now intends to focus on this full-time. Alpine also confirmed that the 25-year-old German will once again be one of their six riders for the 2025 WEC campaign.

Several times during this season, Mick Schumacher was considered as a possible candidate for the Formula One seat, first as Pierre Gasly’s teammate at Alpine and then as Nico Hulkenberg’s partner at Sauber, but the choice later fell to newcomer Jack Doohan and Gabriel Bortoleto.

Let us remind you that Red Bull driver Max Verstappen won his fourth consecutive Formula 1 world title in the current 2024 season. There are only two stages left until the end of the campaign. The next Qatar Grand Prix will take place from November 29 to December 1.
