Radomiak Radom drew 0-0 with Zagłębie Lubin in the Polish Ekstraklasa, ending a run of three consecutive defeats that had piled pressure on head coach Tomasz Kaczmarek.
The result halted a slide that began after Radomiak's season-opening 2-1 win over Wieczysta Kraków. In the three matches that followed, Radomiak lost every time, conceding 11 goals while scoring only two, including a 5-0 defeat by Legia Warszawa in the previous round.
Before the season began, Kaczmarek had said his squad would need more time to reach its best form. A fourth straight loss against Zagłębie Lubin risked intensifying scrutiny of his position, making the meeting significant both for morale and for the coach's job security.
Plenty of shots, few on target
Radomiak's players showed clear commitment at home, firing off 13 shots in the first half alone. Only three were on target, and even those carried little threat. Luquinhas's effort in the seventh minute, for example, flew straight at Zagłębie goalkeeper Zlatan Alomerović.
Zagłębie Lubin managed no shots on target in the opening 45 minutes. Damian Dąbrowski came closest in the 16th minute, when his effort narrowly missed the post. In their three previous league matches, one of which they played without a fixture after Raków Częstochowa had it rescheduled, Zagłębie had scored four of their five goals in the second half, giving their fans hope of a livelier second period.
Second half fails to spark
Zagłębie came close early in the second half. In the 56th minute, Marcel Reguła had a good chance in the penalty area but headed the ball straight at Radomiak goalkeeper Filip Majchrowicz instead of finding the net.
Coach Leszek Ojrzyński might have feared that wasted chance would prove costly, but Radomiak could not create enough in the second half to punish it. For long stretches, the home side took on the role Zagłębie had played before the break, struggling to put a shot on target.
The match was low on quality, though both sides kept pushing for a winner until the final whistle. Jan Grzesik and Michalis Kosidis each had a chance from around 20 meters, but both shots missed the target. Three minutes of stoppage time brought no further chances, and a wayward free-kick delivery from Romario Baro summed up the poor standard of the contest. A goalless draw was a fair outcome.
Lineups and match details
Radomiak lined up with Filip Majchrowicz in goal behind Ouattara, Szcześniak, Koperski and Jan Grzesik, with Donis in midfield alongside Nunnely, Wolski, Luquinhas and Lumungo, and Goure up front. Kaczmarek made second-half changes, bringing on Manu, Karasek, Baro and Tapsoba.
Zagłębie Lubin started with Alomerović in goal, a back four of Grzybek, Michalski, Ławniczak and Ćorluka, and a midfield of Kerk, Kocaba and Dąbrowski supporting Reguła, Szymczak and Sypek. Ojrzyński used five substitutes, including Jakuba, Kolan, Nowogoński, Mlinarić and Kosidis.
Referee Łukasz Kuźma of Białystok took charge of the match. He booked Tapsoba for Radomiak, along with Dąbrowski and Grzybek for Zagłębie.
