British boxer Raven Chapman is recovering after undergoing emergency brain surgery following a training collapse in Denmark on July 24. The 32-year-old was taken by air ambulance to hospital after collapsing during a sparring session.
Doctors diagnosed Chapman with a brain haematoma and cerebral oedema, performing emergency surgery to stop bleeding and reduce swelling before placing her in an induced coma for almost two weeks. Her team confirmed doctors have now started reducing her sedation as treatment continues, with plans being made to transfer her to a UK hospital for lengthy rehabilitation.
Team statement and recovery update
A statement from her team said: "Doctors are doing everything they can to support her recovery, and we remain hopeful as she continues to fight through this incredibly difficult time."
"Raven's family are in Denmark supporting her during this incredibly difficult time. We kindly ask that their privacy is respected," the statement continued.
"At this stage, this is the only update we are able to provide. If there are any significant developments, we will share further information when it is appropriate to do so. Thank you for your continued support. Please keep Raven and her loved ones in your thoughts during this challenging time."
Fundraising appeal and boxing support
A fundraising page has been launched to cover the costs of Chapman's rehabilitation and ongoing care, raising over £46,000 toward an £80,000 target. The GoFundMe link can be accessed here. Boxing figures including Nakisa Bidarian, Terri Harper, Ellie Scotney and Skye Nicholson have contributed to the appeal.
Queensberry Promotions donated £20,000, while Eddie Hearn contributed £5,000. Queensberry also issued a statement, saying: "Everyone at Queensberry is devastated to hear about our former fighter Raven Chapman. We're all hoping for a full recovery."
Former promoter Frank Warren shared the appeal on social media, writing: "Raven is fully in my thoughts this morning, I'm really hoping she can pull through and get home safely." He added: "Everyone at Queensberry is behind you Raven, we're all hoping you can pull through this."
Chapman, who is from Norwich, holds a professional record of 10 wins and two defeats. She previously challenged Skye Nicholson for the WBC featherweight world title in 2024, losing on points in Riyadh.
