Rodrigo Monteiro de Castro: SAF Can Grow Brazilian Football

Lawyer Rodrigo Monteiro de Castro told CNN Esportes S/A that the SAF management model could make Brazil the largest football market in the world. Monteiro de Castro, a sports law specialist and co-creator of the Corporations of Football (SAF) law, said the new management structure provides a solution for Brazilian clubs to professionalize, attract investment, and strengthen the sport.

Many people believe Brazil is no longer the country of football, a view driven by the national team's title drought in recent years. Monteiro de Castro stated that consolidating club management under SAF can transform this situation. He added that becoming the top market depends on several factors, including contributions from the state.

Adaptation of International Models

Monteiro de Castro explained that Brazil developed its SAF legislation by studying sports markets in Spain, France, the United States, England, and South America. However, he noted that lawmakers adapted those international experiences to fit local characteristics, creating unprecedented legal mechanisms unique to Brazilian football.
