Chile start with everything in the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series

The national team beat Italy and Papua New Guinea on their debut in the competition which in 2024 gives access to the world’s most important sevens rugby league.

This Thursday the action began for the Condors of Rugby 7s with two victories in the World Rugby Sevens Challenger Series 2023 tournament that gives the chance to play the world circuit of the modality.

Chile are part of Group B of the competition which takes place in South Africa where Italy, Papua New Guinea and Hong Kong are also located.

On their debut against the Europeans, the Cóndores managed to prevail thanks to the try of Ernesto Tchimino, Manuel Bustamante and Benjamín Videla, as well as the conversion of captain Diego Warnker to record a 17-12 victory at the Bulletin board. .

Then it was their turn to face Papua New Guinea. The ocean cast demanded the maximum from the national team which ended up winning 20-19 .

With this, the Rugby 7s Condors will face their last match of the group stage of the tournament on Friday at dawn against Hong Kong. This meeting is scheduled for 05:10, Chilean time.

It should be remembered that this tournament is played by reproducing the Olympic format. In other words, the teams are divided into three groups of four teams, with the first two and the two best third-placed teams qualifying for the next phase. From there, they already face each other in direct elimination. Quarter-finals, semi-finals and match for gold and bronze. The winner will also get a quota to be able to play the world circuit of the modality.
