The Chilean seven aims for a historic qualification for the Olympic Games

The men’s and women’s teams will play this weekend in the South American qualifying tournament in Montevideo.

This weekend, the seven-man teams will compete in the South American qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The stage will be the Estadio Charrúa in Montevideo, where the male and female representatives will seek a direct quota or at least one of them for the final draft for next year’s meeting.

In the women’s draw, Chile’s rivals will be Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Argentina, Uruguay and Peru. The team led by Edmundo Olfos is made up of Nataly Badilla, Antonieta Badilla, Catalina Miranda, Catalina Villarroel, Valeria Vera, Carla Jorquera, Gissel Castañeda, Beatríz Araneda, Nicole Ogalde, Daniela Baeza, Daniela Rojas and Javiera Fuentes.

Whereas in men, the picture is different, since Argentina are already classified in the Olympic event for their second place in the Sevens World Tour there are therefore six teams in competition: Uruguay, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru and Chile.

In this case, the the head coach Joaquín Todeschini presented a list with an additional player, before starting the tournament the list must be reduced to 12. The national team includes: Ernesto Tchimino, Cristóbal Game, Clemente Armstrong, Alfonso Escobar, Matías Garafulic, Martín Dumay, Benjamín Videla, Diego Warnken, Luca Strabucchi, Gonzalo Lara, Manuel Bustamante, Marcelo Torrealba and Rodrigo Fernández.

Garafulic and Fernandez figures of the XV of rugby, were not on the two dates of the World Tour where Chile was invited, nor at the Challenger Series in South Africa, since they played Super Rugby Americas with Selknam.
