Chile loses to Argentina in rugby sevens final, wins silver at Santiago 2023

The national team lost 24-5 to the Pumas in the definition of discipline at the municipal stadium of La Pintana.

Chilean rugby clearly shows Santiago that it is a power on the continent. They beat the United States in the semifinals and lost to Argentina in the final, winning historic silver for the sport.

All in an emblematic day for the Chilean team, since it also won a gold medal in skating, two bronzes in table tennis, a silver in canoe sprint, two golds in karate and two bronzes in wrestling.

To this record are also added the seven Chileans, who for this event included four Condors who participated in the World Cup in France. They came up against a strong USA in the semi-final and couldn’t find the answers for a long time to win the duel, leaving 0-12 at halftime.

With time running out, Chile reacted with two tries (including one converted) which left them with only one point of equality. This is how they faced the last play of the match, where they took advantage of the numerical advantage (the United States had a yellow) to turn the situation around. 15-12 and tickets to the grand final.

The one where they faced the Pumas, the greatest team on the continent in this discipline and owners of the Olympic bronze medal in Tokyo 2020. Chile fought, but could not against the strength of the Argentines, who won 24 -5 and revalidated their Pan American gold medal achieved in Lima 2019.
