This is the new mural inspired by Los Jaivas which is installed in the Santiago metro

The work marks a new stage in the celebration of the 60-year career of the legendary group Viñamarina. Offered by the Los Jaivas Cultural Foundation, with funding from the production company Bizarro, it was designed by the painter René Olivares, usual creator of the group’s graphic imagery.

At the end of the year marked by the celebration of their 60 years of musical career, the work of Los Jaivas receives new recognition. Today, from 11:00 a.m., the installation of a new mural in the Santiago metro is inaugurated which pays homage to the famous Viñamarino team.

It is a work created by the Chilean painter René Olivares, which will adorn the Cal y Canto station of line 3 of the metro. It is a structure measuring 30 meters long by 6 meters high, which was donated by the Los Jaivas Cultural Foundation to the city of Santiago with funding from the production company Bizarro Live Entertainment.

“The work was motivated by the desire to thank the enormous affection, support and recognition of several generations of Chileans that they have given us over these 60 years. “, says Mario Mutis, of Los Jaivas. “Violeta Parra, Pablo Neruda, the Andes, our indigenous peoples, the magic of our continent, planetary, galactic and universal consciousness, the concept of All together. For his part, Guillermo Muñoz, president of Metro, highlights the work: “The mural seeks to reflect, in a graphic way, the importance that Los Jaivas have in the musical history of the country. For this reason, having a mural that allows us to show the more than two million passengers who travel daily on the metro this important and fundamental part of Chilean music fills us with pride. With this mural, the metro reaches 75 works over more than 11,500 square meters distributed throughout our network, which also confirms our commitment to promoting culture and art, in all their expressions.

The signing of René Olivares is part of Los Jaivas history. The France-based artist is the creator of the band’s logo, as well as most of their album covers. Although the fresco is its inspiration, it was the Lira Arte Público studio that created it.

The study called for a experienced team of Chilean muralists, led by Rodrigo “Eso” Estay and Giovanni “Giova” Zamora to carry out the work . In the meantime, the painter Renato Olivares, René’s son, came specially from Sweden to work on the work with his father.

The Jaivas have just closed their cycle of “Sesenta” celebrations that they celebrated throughout Chile and which culminated on Saturday, December 9 at Quinta Vergara in Viña del Mar, the town where they were born and where they is part of International Song.
