Selknam can’t beat Argentina’s Pampas and adds another defeat to Super Rugby Americas

The nationals managed to win only one of their four matches in the continental tournament. The Transandines, for their part, are in the lead with a perfect score.

The fourth match of Super Rugby Americas was a defeat for Selknam. The national team could not beat Pampas XV and ended up losing 41-19 to the Argentine franchise. The highlight of the match will be the close that the Chileans had in the first half, where they managed to overcome a score of 0-13.

This turn of events occurred in the 37th minute of the first half. The actions at the municipal stadium of La Pintana were 13-0 in favor of the transandins, who added points thanks to a converted try and two strikes.

Selknam was suffocated, but thanks to this pressure, Franco Velarde found space to make the difference and close the distance. A try that elevated the national team, which suddenly added a new score. It was three minutes later and the clock was already 40′ into the first half.

A great national team play disconcerted the Argentine defense, which was unable to capture Selknam’s offensive which crowned the play in the end zone. The scorer was Nicolás Saab, a 19-year-old center for Old Boys.

With a favorable score of 14-13, the local franchise punished from the start of the second half, managing to reach 19 points, since Martín Dumay’s try could not be transformed.

The problem was that this level could not be maintained throughout the match and the Argentines regained the lead in the 60th minute, which was a big blow for Selknam, who could not recover from this turn. Pampas worked the game intelligently, grew and took advantage of the mistakes of the national team, which ended up losing consistency.

Two tries at the end extended this Transandean advantage, which closed the match 41-19 in favor. In this way, the Santiago team has a record of one victory and three defeats in its first four Super Rugby Americas matches, while Pampas accumulates a perfect score. They remain undefeated and in first place.
