Why do you use a toaster to cook chili rice?

Gourmet consultant Heinz Wuth explored why this artifact is commonly used to cook rice.

Among all the objects that can be found in a Chilean cuisine one of the most sacred and essential is undoubtedly the roasting pan .

This utensil is quite simple in structure, since it is made of tin, iron wire and a foldable handle. But despite its simplicity, the toaster has great importance in gastronomic identity and culture because it is used to prepare various foods, including rice.

For this reason, recently the chef and gastronomic advisor Heinz Wuth famous on social media as @soycienciaycocina decided to talk more about this tool and why it is used to cook rice.

The reason why the toaster is used to cook rice

in a video which he shared on his Instagram account, the gastronomic consultant began by reporting that the use of this instrument to cook rice has become “a custom present in Chilean homes”.

Regarding why the above occurs, Wuth argued that “Normally, cooking fires are small and do not reach the diameter of the pot” .

The toaster is commonly used to heat bread, sopaipillas or rice.

“That’s why, when preparing the rice, we turn on the fire and after pouring the water, we place the toaster on low heat. Toaster materials are usually aluminum and iron. Aluminum conducts heat quickly and iron retains temperature well. Thanks to its diameter, it radiates and distributes heat throughout the base, thus achieving even cooking. », added the gastronomic advisor.

Finally, Wuth clarifies that, in the case of electric or larger diameter cookers, the use of the toaster is not so necessary “due to the contact surface” they have. However, this does not mean that this practice continues to be deeply rooted in homes across the country.
