The students handed over their jerseys to the European athletes, before their clash with the Condores at the National Stadium. This situation generated a funny confusion that quickly went viral.
A very special gift and a funny confusion. It is the consequence of the gift that the University of Chile gave to the Scottish rugby team, during their visit to our country.
It all started when the Blues gave one of the world powers the official jersey of the club that plays at home in Ñuñoa. The athletes were deeply grateful for the situation and so that everyone could see them with their gifts, they uploaded a photo to their social networks. After thanking them, the visiting team added: “An honor to play in your stadium.”
The fact is that when translating the sentence, it reads that “it is an honor to play in your stadium” and this is not correct. While it is true that the U feels comfortable in the Ñuñoa Coliseum and plays most of its home games there, the National belongs to the country and is administered by the National Sports Institute (IND).
For this reason, the jokes were immediate in the responses to their messages and in several of them it was recalled that despite the different attempts to have their own domain, this dream has not yet come true.
The result of the match
Beyond this anecdote, the duel between the Scots and the Condors was a total success. The attendance broke a record and even if the score was not what we dreamed of, the chance to face the country that occupies sixth place in the world leaves several lessons for Chile.
Actually, Chile lived up to the power they faced and beyond the score (11-52), beautiful passes of play were observed throughout the match. In addition, a massive turnout was recorded at the country’s main sports park: 24,878 people arrived, according to the organization’s official documents.
What’s next for Chile? The team is preparing for the Australia 2027 qualifiers, which will see them face Brazil and Paraguay. In addition, there will be a European tour in November, where they will face Scotland, Canada and the Netherlands.
