Silverstone will host the 2027 British Grand Prix on July 4, a Sunday that falls during the middle weekend of the Wimbledon tennis championships rather than clashing with the men's final, as Formula One released its calendar for next season.
The 2027 schedule names Bahrain as the opening round of the season and features 10 sprint races, up from six in 2026, across a 24-race programme.
Bahrain is pencilled in for March 14, with Saudi Arabia following the next weekend before the series moves on to Australia.
Silverstone and Wimbledon
It is understood that Silverstone's bosses have willingly agreed to the early July date and that the circuit's chief executive, Stuart Pringle, is content that the overlap with Wimbledon is not a concern. The two events have clashed on the calendar in several recent years.
Despite this year's crossover with Wimbledon, a crowd of 564,000 attended the Northamptonshire circuit over the British Grand Prix weekend in July, the biggest attendance ever recorded at a Formula One event, surpassing the previous record set at Adelaide in 1995. Adelaide hosted the Australian Grand Prix until that year, before the race moved to Melbourne.
Silverstone has staged the British Grand Prix since 1950, when it hosted the first ever round of the Formula One world championship. Wimbledon, held at the All England Club in south-west London, is tennis's oldest Grand Slam tournament.
Jannik Sinner won this year's men's singles title at Wimbledon, a tournament that has repeatedly overlapped with the British Grand Prix in recent seasons.
Bahrain's role as season opener
F1 executives' firm intention is for the opening round to actually be staged in Bahrain, world affairs allowing, rather than relocated to Malaysia as has happened this year, when the race was run as "the Bahrain Grand Prix in Kuala Lumpur" on October 4 because of the ongoing American and Israeli-Iranian conflict.
Bahrain has hosted a round of the world championship since 2004. Sprint races, now expanded to ten events on the 2027 calendar, are shorter, standalone races held on the Saturday of a race weekend, separate from the main Grand Prix on Sunday.
Monaco will remain in its new June slot, a week later than its traditional May date, and will host a sprint race for the first time.
