The Greek tennis champion was scheduled to take on American Martin Damm, ranked number 100 in the world rankings. Rain forced tournament organizers to remove the contest from the day three schedule.
Organizers originally scheduled the match as the final fixture on the central court. It was expected to take place between 03:30 and 04:00 early on Tuesday morning, August 4, before severe weather intervened.
Rain Disrupts National Bank Open Schedule
Heavy rainfall in the Canadian host city began on Sunday night, August 2, causing initial major disruptions to the match schedule and forcing multiple postponements across the tournament.
Weather conditions failed to improve on Monday, August 3. The persistent bad weather led to further schedule adjustments and pushed additional matches back.
Tournament officials have not yet officially announced the new match time. The top Greek player is expected to make his tournament debut tomorrow, weather permitting.
Second Round Opponent Awaits Match Winner
The winner of the opening round encounter between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Martin Damm will advance to the second round of the National Bank Open.
The advancing player will face Joao Fonseca in the second round of the Canadian tournament.
