Team Europe captain Luke Donald confirmed the qualification process for the 2027 Ryder Cup in Ireland will begin at the British Masters at The Belfry. The August 27-30 tournament, hosted by Sir Nick Faldo, is the first event over the next year where eligible DP World Tour members can earn points toward the roster.
The 2027 Ryder Cup will take place at Adare Manor in County Limerick, Ireland, from September 17 to September 19, 2027. Defending champions Europe will bid for three consecutive wins under Donald, who is the first golfer since Bernard Gallacher to serve as captain in three consecutive Ryder Cups.
Donald was recognized in the King's Birthday Honours list with an OBE for his success with Team Europe at the Ryder Cup. Sky Sports reporter Jamie Weir also outlined the reasons behind selecting Donald to lead the European side for a third consecutive campaign.
Automatic Places and Captain's Picks
As in previous years, the six leading players on the Ryder Cup points list will automatically earn spots on Team Europe. That points qualification window concludes on Sunday, August 22, 2027.
Donald will complete his 12-player line-up with six Captain's Picks during the week starting August 30, 2027. The selection strategy aims to assemble a strong roster capable of retaining the trophy.
Luke Donald on the Qualification Journey
Donald highlighted the milestone of starting the campaign for the upcoming event. "The start of qualification is always a notable milestone in the Ryder Cup journey, so I am delighted to today confirm details of our process for the 2027 European Team," Donald said.
He noted the mix of roster contenders across the tour over the next 12 months. "We have a lot of talented European players at the moment, some with Ryder Cup experience and others who will be trying to qualify for the first time," he said.
Donald expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming competition period across DP World Tour events. "I am therefore really looking forward to seeing them compete to qualify for Team Europe over the next 12 months," Donald added.
The Centenary Match at Adare Manor
The 2027 contest marks a major historic milestone for golf's team event. "Next year's Ryder Cup at Adare Manor promises to be very special for so many different reasons," Donald said. "It will be the 100-year anniversary of the Ryder Cup and we will have the support of the Irish crowds, who are among the best in the world."
Donald believes home atmosphere will provide extra drive for European golfers. "Those factors will only add to the motivation of our European players to ensure they are part of it," Donald said.
