Christian Garin rehires Andrés Schneiter, the same coach he fired two years ago

The national tennis player is once again working under the Argentinian’s wing. With the Gringo, as he is nicknamed, the native of Arica achieved his best place in the ATP rankings and won seven titles.

“Here we go again”. With these words, Christian Garin begins a new stage in his career. This Sunday, the national tennis player confirmed that he would work again with Andrés Schneiter as coach. The Ariqueño was under the Argentine’s wing between 2018 and 2020, achieving his best moments in the sport.

During these two years, the Chilean climbed into the top 100, reaching number 18 in the ATP rankings. The big leap came after winning the Rio Open. In addition to this title, with the Cordovan, the current second racquet in the country has won three trophies at Challenger level and three more at ATP level.

Far from those days of triumphs, Garin again hires Schneiter to find his best level. After parting ways, Gago was trained by Franco Davín, Jorge Aguilar, Mariano Puerta and Pepe Vendrell. The first squeeze of this new period of the national tennis player will be to face none other than Novak Djokovic at the ATP 500 in Astana.

surprise outing

The announcement of the number 79 in the world comes almost a month after his working relationship with Pepe Vendrell . “It’s been a tough year, a lot of things have happened. I’ve improved even though the rankings don’t show it. I had my best week of the year without reward points. Now I have to worry about finishing the season with a good feeling. The season was irregular, but I worked hard. I started the year very badly emotionally and I’m still here, fighting.” Garin said when it was confirmed he would not continue with the Spaniards.

For his part, in conversation with Jock , the coach spoke about the constant coaching changes his former student has had. “Stability has to overcome much tougher times than we’ve had right now, and that says a bit about the fragility of the teams that have been with him. It really seems to me that we haven’t had enough tolerance to overcome I’m not going to tell you what difficult times, because the truth is that I don’t even consider that we had them. Everything was very fast, very rushed and we didn’t fight hard enough to give continuity to this project which had good ingredients,” he said.

Four weeks after Vendrell’s departure, Garin trusts Andrés Schneiter again with whom he also had a surprising breakup. “I didn’t expect it, because there was a lot to improve and we were working on it. He surprised me. I haven’t spoken to Christian. The manager called me. And the next day a letter came out on their social media,” he detailed in 2020, when the relationship broke down.

“There were normal frictions, but not to end. Maybe I’m screwed, because I get into everything and try to get the player I’m coaching out of his comfort zone, ”he then reflected.
