Russian tennis player Andrei Rublev said it pained him to remember the loss to American Francis Tiafoe in the quarterfinals of the 2022 US Open.
The encounter ended with the defeat of Rublev in three sets. The American in the semi-finals of the US Open lost to the eventual winner of the tournament, Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz.
– Is that pain from the US Open – the tears on the court during the match with Tiafoe – still alive or let go?
– And this, and that, because the third such defeat in a season. Clearly it hurts and hurts when remembered. But the season continues, there is an opportunity to reach the final tournament, we have to think about it. If I want to prevent this from happening again, I have to work even harder and think about preparing for next season,” Rublev quotes in “Championship”.
Rublev, ranked ninth in the world rankings, won three ATP tournaments in the 2022 season.
