Sport Resolutions, an independent sports dispute resolution agency, has completed its investigation into the doping case of former Romanian world number 1 Simona Halep, spokesman Paul Ciukur has said.
Earlier, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) temporarily suspended the 31-year-old tennis player from competition for a positive test result at this year’s US Open. Analysis of Sample B confirmed the result of Sample A, which contained Roxadastat, a drug banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Halep denied the doping allegations and said she intended to “fight for the truth”.
– The doping allegation has been brought to the attention of Halep. The investigation phase is over. Now Simona has 20 days to either contest the indictment or enter into, there is such a possibility, a plea deal which will reduce the period of her disqualification by 4 years, which is the standard penalty, at 3 years old, Çukur cites TVR.
Halep is ranked tenth by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA). Simone has won two Grand Slam singles tournaments – the 2018 French Open and 2019 Wimbledon.
