The Ukrainian won the 98th racket of the world
Ukrainian tennis player Ilya Marchenko made his way into second round series tournament Challenger in Bratislava.
In the opening match of the main draw, Marchenko, who occupies 446th place in the world ranking, beat the seed leader and world No. 98 Zhang Zhizhen from China in two sets.
In the first game, the opponents took all their serves, and in the tie-break, with the score 6:7, the Ukrainian won three rallies in a row. In the second set, with the score 5:5, Marchenko made a break and brought the matter to victory.
The Ukrainian tennis player took revenge on the Chinese for the defeat three months ago at the Challenger in Poland, where they met in the second round. Marchenko beat a top 100 player for the second time this year.
Ilya’s next opponent will be Cem Ilkel from Turkey, who beat Ukraine’s Vitaliy Sachko in qualifying.
