Captain of the Japanese tennis team: We strive for a fair fight, so we will demonstrate respect for Ukraine

Billie Jean King Cup match will be held in Tokyo on November 11-12

Captain Japan national team tennis Toshihisa Tsuchihashi commented on the upcoming match with Ukraine in the playoffs Billie Jean King Cup.

“It will be a difficult match, but we strive for a fair fight. I think this is how we will demonstrate our respect for Ukraine. Of course, we will try to win, but also use this opportunity to improve our players and gain important experience.”

“I don’t think it will be hard for us to fight against the Ukrainian team [с моральной точки зрения]. We will invite Ukrainian children to the match, we would like them to see that playing sports is an exciting process. Our players are well prepared, they are relaxed, and I believe that they will be able to play well in the World Group. We will strive for this.”

The match between Japan and Ukraine will take place in Tokyo on November 11-12. Marta Kostyuk and Misaki Doi will play first. The fight will begin at 08:00 Kyiv time on November 11.

The match will take place on the center court of the Ariake Tennis Park in Tokyo. The winner of the match will play in the Billie Jean King Cup Qualifier next year.

In April, the Ukrainian national team consisting of Dayana Yastremska, Katarina Zavatskaya and the Kichenok sisters lost to the USA in the qualification and failed to qualify for the final part of the tournament.
