Country lifts mandatory coronavirus vaccination requirement for visitors

Former world number one Novak Djokovic flew to Australia. Serb prepares to compete in first Grand Slam of the new year Australian Open.

In January 2022, Djokovic was deported from Australia. The Serb was accused of falsifying medical certificates in order to circumvent the mandatory coronavirus vaccination requirement for visitors to the continent. Djokovic had his visa revoked and banned from entering the country for three years.

Australia subsequently lifted strict travel restrictions and no longer requires mandatory coronavirus vaccinations. In November, the visa ban for the tennis player was lifted.

Spaniard Rafael Nadal is the 2022 Australian Open winner. The upcoming tournament will be held in Melbourne from 16 to 29 January.
