“It hurts that guys from other sports couldn’t compete. And that we were lucky – thank God” – tennis player Myskina on Russian withdrawal

Former Russian tennis player Anastasia Myskina in an interview with , she said that the difficult political situation does not affect the attitude towards Russian representatives in the world of tennis.

Myskina ended her career in 2007. She is the first tennis player from the former Soviet Union to win a Grand Slam tournament in women’s singles.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has called on international sports federations to withdraw athletes from Russia and Belarus from official competitions due to the situation in Ukraine.

– Today, Russian tennis players can participate in international tournaments. Is your sport lucky compared to most others?

– Without a doubt. Every athlete wants to compete. When I see guys of other species don’t have such an opportunity, I get very hurt and offended. And that we were lucky – thank God.

– There is no pressure on our tennis players?

– Of course, in such a situation, it will be felt. Especially when you come abroad, and from all corners, roughly speaking, you are told that you are a bad person. In such a situation, willy-nilly, you will feel tense.

But I see how the guys communicate on the tour, as was the case during the tournament in St. Petersburg – the most important thing is that everyone treats each other normally. They have known each other for many years and know well that the tennis player-athlete has remained the same.
