Tennis player Auger-Alassime named Canadian Sportsman of the Year

Tennis player Felix Auger-Alassim became the owner of the Lionel Conacher award, which recognizes the best athlete of the year in Canada, according to the website of the country’s tennis federation.

– It was a great year, to receive this award means recognition of merit by the fans and the media, it is a great honor. It’s really great,” said the 22-year-old athlete.

The winner of the award is determined by a vote of Canadian sports journalists. The tennis player was recognized as the best athlete in Canada for the fourth time, previously it was possible for Milos Raonic (2013, 2014) and Denis Shapovalov (2017). Last year, Olympic decathlon champion Damian Warner received the award.

Auger Alassime is ranked sixth in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings. In 2022, he won four ATP singles titles, winning tournaments in Basel, Antwerp, Florence and Rotterdam.
