President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) Shamil Tarpishchev wished health to the former first racket of the world Martina Navratilova, to whom the doctors diagnosed cancer.
On Monday, it became known that in November Navratilova, 66, was diagnosed with breast and throat cancer after an enlarged lymph node in her neck was examined. The former tennis player overcame breast cancer 13 years ago thanks to a treatment of radiotherapy.
“It’s a heartbreak for anyone. She did so much to popularize world tennis. I’ve known her since she was seven years old, then she came to Sochi for competitions.
I can wish Martina good health so that she can overcome this misfortune. We appreciate him as a person who has done a lot for the development of the whole sport, ”Tarpishchev said in a conversation with a correspondent.
Originally from Prague, Navratilova moved to the United States in the mid-1970s and later became an American citizen. She is a 59-time Grand Slam winner.
