Kostyuk: When you go further, you want to play even better

Marta advanced to the quarter-finals of the WTA 500 tournament in Adelaide

Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk commented on her passage to the quarterfinals of the WTA 500 tournament in Adelaide (Australia). The Ukrainian beat the Wimbledon 2022 champion Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan in three sets.

“Honestly, this is not the result that I was preparing for today. Elena is a very good player and has been on the tour for several years. We played against each other in the semi-finals of the junior Australian Open. I don’t remember that match, but we definitely have changed a lot since then and gained some experience.”

“I didn’t know how everything would turn out today, but I fought for every ball. Everything could go either way. Very happy with how it ended. The first set was very close. Somewhere I just didn’t get lucky. The same two break points at 4:4, and in the next game 0:40 on my serve. I knew that I could deal with it. I don’t know, I just kept fighting.”

“I am glad that I will play another match, because I love tennis. This is the first week of the year. Obviously I don’t have any expectations because the further you go you want to play even better.”

“I haven’t played with Ons before, but I met Sorana and lost. Then she played very well. But women’s tennis has changed a lot, now any tennis player can beat any opponent. They are playing against each other tomorrow night, so I will watch this match and prepare myself.”

In the quarterfinals of the event in Australia, Kostyuk will meet the winner of the match between the top seed Ons Jaber (Tunisia) and Sorana Kirstei (Romania).
