World No. 1 Alcaraz to miss 2023 Australian Open with leg injury

The Spaniard was injured during pre-season training

The first racket of the world Carlos Alcaraz will miss Australian Open 2023. The Spaniard injured his leg during pre-season training and does not have time to recover for the tournament.

“While I was getting in shape during preseason, I got injured due to random, unnatural movement in training. This time it’s the semimembranosus of the right leg. I have worked so hard to reach my best level for Australia but unfortunately I won’t be able to play in Cuyong and Melbourne. It’s hard, but I have to be optimistic, recover and look forward. See you in 2024, Australian Open.”

Recall that the 19-year-old Alcaraz became the youngest player in history to complete the calendar year in first position in the ATP. During 2022, the Spaniard made a breakthrough from 32nd place to the first line of the world ranking.

The Australian Open 2023 will take place from 16 to 29 January. The winner of the last men’s tournament was another Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal.
