He joins Thiem and Musetti: Christian Garin will be present at the 2023 Chile Open

The organization has confirmed the national tennis player, winner of the tournament in 2021, for the edition that will land on February 27 in San Carlos de Apoquindo.

Santiago already has its first confirmed national. It is Christian Garín (85th), who this Friday morning was announced as a player in the main draw of the Chile Open 2023. Thus, “Gago” will return to San Carlos de Apoquindo to lift the only ATP tournament for the second time. 250 times the country has.

Garin will also try to leave behind the bad feelings he gave in the 2022 edition of the tournament, where he lost on his debut to Alejandro Tabilo by doubles 6-3 . On this occasion, the northerner came with obvious physical problems, which did not allow him to show his best version and therefore not be able to defend the title won in 2021.

And it is that San Carlos de Apoquindo has also been a party place for Garin. Two years ago he managed to win the title in a tournament that took place in the form of a bubble and which pitted him against players like the Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas, the Colombian Daniel Galán and the Argentinian Facundo Bagnis.

For 2023, on the other hand, the tournament has three confirmed players, including two Europeans. It is Dominic Thiem (113th) and Lorenzo Musetti (31st) two totally opposite tennis players, but who capture the attention of the local public.

On the one hand is the student of Nicolás Massú and former 3 in the world, who will be looking to add points in South America to be able to return once and for all to the top positions in the rankings , something he hasn’t achieved since his wrist injury. In any case, the 2020 US Open champion has improved his level and maybe with a good Australian Open he will be on fire to win the 18th title of his career in Santiago.

Musetti, on the other hand, is at his best. After an explosive 2022, where managed to win the ATP 500 in Hamburg and the ATP 250 in Naples , the 20-year-old Italian will play for the first time on the South American tour and with a star poster. Among the Next Gen players, he is one of the most interesting and his presence ensures a spectacle in the capital.

The Movistar Chile Open 2023 will take place from February 27 to March 5 on the courts of the San Carlos de Apoquindo stadium and tickets are not yet on sale.
