Former world No. 1 in doubles Sanya Mirza announced that she would end her career in February after the Dubai tournament.
“I was going to finish right after the final tournament because we were going to get there, but I tore my elbow tendon right before the US Open, so I had to give it all up.
Honestly, I’m the type of person who likes to do things on my own terms. That’s why I don’t want an injury to force me out, that’s why I train. I’m 36 and honestly my body is emaciated, that’s the main reason. I really don’t have the possibility to tire myself emotionally anymore.
I turned pro in 2003. The parameters change, and now my priority is not to take my body to the limit every day, – Mirza quotes to place WTA.
Mirza, 36, is an Indian tennis player who has won six Grand Slam tournaments (three women’s doubles and three mixed doubles).
The Dubai tournament will take place from February 19 to 25.
