Organizers of the Australian Open tennis tournament have allowed athletes who have tested positive for coronavirus, but are feeling well and can continue to play, to tournament matches. This was announced by Australian Tennis Federation Executive Director Craig Tiley, his words quoted by The Age newspaper .
“We will not impose any requirements on tennis players regarding testing for COVID-19. If they don’t feel well, it’s best that they stay home. If they are ready to play with a positive test, you need to let the doctors know so that during the competition the doctors can monitor their condition, Tiley said.
The Serbian tennis player has already arrived in Australia Novak Djokovic . In November, the Australian authorities lifted the decision to ban Djokovic from traveling to the country, taken for three years in January 2022. Then the Serb arrived to speak at the Australian Open 2022, but was quarantined by the local authorities due to problems with the documents on the medical exemption from compulsory vaccination. Djokovic’s visa was canceled and he subsequently left the country.
The 2023 Australian Open will be held in Melbourne from January 16-29.
