Daria defeated Mexican Gomez in three sets
Ukrainian tennis players Daria Snigur and Katarina Zawatskaya passed the first round of qualification for Australian Open 2023.
In two and a half hours, Snigur defeated Fernanda Contreras Gomez from Mexico in three sets. In the first game, the Ukrainian was leading 4-0, making two breaks, but the Mexican made two breaks in return. Snigur managed to make another break and filed for a set on the first try.
In the second set, Daria did not apply for the match in the 12th game and missed one match point in the tie-break. In the decisive set, the Ukrainian bounced back 2:4, taking four games in a row.
In the second round, Snigur will play against 15-year-old Brenda Frugvirtova from the Czech Republic, who received the 27th seed in qualifying.
Zawatskaya confidently passed in two sets to Eva Vedder from the Netherlands. She converted all seven break points and lost only three games on her serve.
Katarina’s next opponent will be Erika Andreeva, seeded 29th.
Earlier, Lesya Tsurenko passed the first round of qualification for the Australian Open-2023. The Ukrainian beat Yuki Naito from Japan in two sets.
