Russian tennis player Diana Schneider dominated Switzerland’s Joanne Zuger in the first round of qualifying for the Australian Open.
The 18-year-old, who sits 105th in the updated WTA rankings, was stronger in straight sets, taking the second set dry.
Schneider’s next opponent in the qualifying semi-finals will be American Robin Montgomery.
Also in the women’s category, Anastasia Tikhonova qualified for the second round by defeating Susan Lamens of the Netherlands. Earlier, Russians Erika Andreeva and Polina Kudermetova overcame the first qualifying round, Anastasia Zakharova, Irina Khromacheva, Daria Astakhova and Anastasia Gasanova completed their performance in Australia.
