Kostyuk: I don’t remember the last time I played five singles matches in one tournament

Ukrainian recently returned to the top 60 of the WTA rankings

Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk commented on the start of the season. Martha stressed that she was pleased with her performance in Adelaide, where she made it to the quarterfinals.

“The first week is very positive. I played a lot of matches, and to be honest, I don’t even remember the last time I played five singles matches in one tournament. In any case, this adds confidence that you are moving in the right direction, doing the right things. Therefore, of course, more positive.

“It was a good match against Ons, she showed a high level of tennis, we both showed a high level in principle, which, in general, is the goal. Of course, there is also disappointment from the defeat, especially since there were chances in both the first and second sets, which I did not use. Of course, I regret it, but in general it was a positive match.”

“In Adelaide, I think the courts are much faster than in Melbourne. I also want to clarify with Lesya Tsurenko, she is already there. I saw her say that there were fast courts in Canberra, but there are also fast courts here. Already on Wednesday I’m flying to Melbourne and I’ll be preparing there already. Of course, you always want to get to Melbourne as soon as possible in order to adapt better.

“I am aware of this event [благотворительный матч в поддержку Украины на Australian Open]. I don’t know if we will play, but I know that all of our people were invited, they sent an email to everyone. The invitation here was slightly different from the one at the US Open, because there they sent us a letter first, and then they made an official announcement. Here the opposite happened. I will take part, but who else of ours will be, I don’t know yet.”

In the updated WTA ranking, Marta Kostyuk ranks 57th. In January, the tennis player will take part in the main draw of the Australian Open-2023.
