Spaniard Rafael, 22 times Grand Slam winner Nadal said the quality of the balls at the 2023 Australian Open had become worse than at the 2022 tournament.
– Are there any differences in court or ball speed compared to last year’s tournament?
– In the speed of the court, I think there is not much difference. Bullets, yes. They are said to remain the same. However, they are inferior in quality, no doubt. We can’t talk about it anymore. That’s what we have, we have to play with them.
The ball no longer has the same rotation as before and after a few shots, it seems to lose pressure. It is therefore more difficult to go into the field. But I have to live with it. I think I’ve trained enough with these balls to be ready,” Nadal said in a press conference.
The Australian Open will be held in Melbourne from January 16-29. Nadal won the 2022 tournament by defeating Russian Daniil Medvedev in five sets.
