Kostyuk and Kalinina started the Australian Open 2023 with victories

For Angelina this is the first victory in Melbourne

Ukrainian tennis players Marta Kostyuk and Angelina Kalinina started with victories at the first Grand Slam tournament of the Australian Open-2023 season.

Kostyuk beat Amanda Anisimova from the USA in two sets in 1 hour and 18 minutes. For the Ukrainian, this is the 25th victory at the Grand Slam tournaments and the 10th at the Australian Open.

At the beginning of the first set, Kostyuk managed to make a break, after which she kept the advantage in the score. The key moment was the fourth game of the second installment. Then, on the pitch of Martha, Amanda had three break points and could make the score 3:1 in her favor. But Martha was able to recoup, and then took the opponent’s serve. In the eighth game, Kostyuk gave up her serve, but then made a break again and served victoriously for the match.

In the 1/32 finals of the tournament, Kostyuk will meet with Olivia Gadetsky (Australia).

Kalinina also beat American Coco Vandewei in straight sets. She spent 1 hour and 15 minutes on the court and gave only one pitch. In the first game, with a score of 3:3, the Ukrainian won all three remaining games, twice taking the opponent’s serve. In the second game, Angelina played even more confidently and defeated the American 6:1.

For Kalinina, this is the second performance at the heart of the Australian Open and the first victory. The next opponent of the Ukrainian in Melbourne will be Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic, seeded 15th.
