Honored Russia coach Vladimir Kamelzon says athletes had nothing to do with Australian Tennis Federation’s decision to ban fans from bringing Russia and Belarus flags to matches the Australian Open.
“I am an old-fashioned person. I was told that I shouldn’t talk about politics, get involved in it. Therefore, I think it is entirely the job of the organizers. Athletes have nothing to do with it. Spectators who sympathize with Russia brought these flags to the stands. Are they the only ones with a positive attitude towards our country? All of Europe already understands that there is no life without Russia, Kamelzon told RT.
Russian flags were seen in the first-round match between Ukrainian Ekaterina Beindl and Russian Kamilla Rakhimova, as well as in the duel between Daniil Medvedev and American Marcos Giron.
