Winner of two Masters Series tournaments Andrei Chesnokov has commented on Australian Open tennis organizers’ decision to ban Russian and Belarusian flags from the stands during tournament matches in Melbourne.
The banning of the flags of Russia and Belarus from the Australian Open was announced by the Australian Tennis Federation (Tennis Australia) on Tuesday, noting that “they will continue to work with players and fans to ensure the best conditions for the tournament”.
– The players themselves say: “Leave us alone, let’s play tennis.” That’s all. It should be in the first place. We have to base ourselves on the opinions of our players. I think they will survive if they don’t see the Russian flags in the stands,” Chesnokov said on MatchTV’s All for the Match!
The Australian Open started on January 16 and will end on January 29.
