Angelina beat the 15th seed at the Australian Open
Ukrainian tennis player Angelina Kalinina commented on her victory over Petra Kvitova in the second round match Australian Open 2023.
“Firstly, I want to say that today there was a huge support, I have never seen such a support. This is the first Australian Open where I have gone beyond the first round and I am very happy to be in the third round thanks to your support.”
“Of course, the presence of Ukrainian flags in the stands means a lot to me when my compatriots support me, but I also want to thank the Australians for how they cheered for me, because I don’t know if I could have won today without you.”
“Petra has an aggressive style of play, and in key moments, perhaps, somewhere I was more confident, somewhere I was lucky. In such cases, everything can always go both ways. But what is, is. I’m glad the game went my way.”
“Am I ready to move on? I think I’m ready for the third lap, but I didn’t watch the grid because it’s stupid to look that far.”
Angelina performs for the second time in Melbourne and for the first time reached the third round at the Grand Slam tournament. The next opponent of the Ukrainian will be determined in the match between Barbora Kreychikova (Czech Republic, 20) and Clara Burel (France).
Two more Ukrainians will play in the second round of the Australian Open 2023 – Marta Kostyuk and Katerina Beindl.
