Angelina won in two sets
Ukrainian tennis player Angelina Kalinina won in the second round at the first Grand Slam of the season Australian Open 2023.
In two sets, Kalinina defeated the 15th seed at the tournament, two-time Wimbledon champion, Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic. At the end of the first game, the tennis players exchanged breaks, and then the Ukrainian again won the game on the opponent’s serve, which lasted more than 15 minutes, and took the lead in the match from the second set point.
In the second set, for eight games, Angelina and Petra defended their serves, but then the Czech lost her game at zero, after which Kalinina confidently filed for the match. The Ukrainian, ranked 39th in the ranking, recorded her fifth victory over the representative of the top 20.
Angelina performs for the second time in Melbourne and for the first time reached the third round at the Grand Slam tournament. The next opponent of the Ukrainian will be determined in the match between Barbora Kreychikova (Czech Republic, 20) and Clara Burel (France).
Recall that in the opening match at the Australian Open-2023, Kalinina beat American Coco Vandewey in straight sets. Two more Ukrainians will play in the second round of the tournament – Marta Kostyuk and Katerina Beindl.
