Alexa Guarachi tops debut to advance to Australian Open second round

The Chilean had no problems in her first game in Melbourne and took the victory in less than an hour of play.

The Australian Open has started to add action in women’s doubles. A first day that had the Chilean, Alexa Guarachi (42nd in the world in the modality) as one of its protagonists. The former top ten added a victory on her Melbourne debut, showing a great game.

A marker that reveals it. Guarachi with his Taiwanese companion Latisha Chan (93rd), they took the match by a double 6-1 which opposed them to the duo composed of Lucía Bronzetti and Elisabetta Cocciaretto, both Italian.

Now the Russian appears on the horizon Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (83rd) and Kazakh Elena Rybakina (442nd) who have just beaten the fifth best couple of the tournament, so a high intensity duel is expected.

Recall that Guarachi’s best Grand Slam performance came in 2020, when he managed to reach the Roland Garros final. On this occasion, the Chilean-American fell with her current duo 4-6, 5-7. Historic result despite the absence of a trophy.
